Who is the service suitable for?
The Home Neurological Rehabilitation service is suitable for patients who have had a stroke (Cerebrovascular Accident, CVA) or severe brain damage. A cerebrovascular accident, also called a stroke or CVA, occurs when there is a sudden disruption to the blood supply of the brain. This disruption causes neurological damage which is expressed in different ways:
Difficulty in swallowing
dysphagia.
Language difficulty
aphasia.
In comprehension (Wernicke) or expression (Broca) or both (global).
Motoric damage to speech
dysarthria.
Cognitive damage
one-sided neglect, agnosia, memory problems according the different types of memory, high-function defects (management function).
Behavioral damage
frontal damage.
Damage to alertness, damage to Circadian Rhythm
sleep.
Primary or secondary damage
damage to tolerance, extreme fatigue, depression.
Occasionally, the damage is in the sensation to a part of the body or the appearance of paresthesia (pins and needles) and other strange sensations in one of the parts of the body.

How can the service be obtained?
If your loved one has had a stroke and is about to be discharged from an emergency admission to hospital, check that the hospital discharge letter includes a recommendation for home rehabilitation. Contact a HMO representative at the hospital and ask to receive the Home Rehabilitation service. You can also contact us at this stage and receive guidelines regarding management with the hospital. Upon receiveing the HMO authorization and acceptance of the patient to this program, the sequence of treatment is fully preserved with the HMO for the entire duration of home rehabilitation until it is complete. The service can be provided financed by the HMOs for those insured by the HMOs with the agreement. Patients who are not covered by the agreement can obtain the home service privately.
